A career celebrated by institutions, fans, and critics across India and worldwide.
Dr. Satinder Sartaaj was born on 2nd November 1980 in Nangal Kalan village, Hoshiarpur district, Punjab. From an early age he showed a deep passion for Punjabi poetry and classical music, a passion that would eventually lead him to become one of the most celebrated and respected voices in the genre. He completed his Masters in Punjabi Music from Panjab University, Chandigarh, followed by a Doctorate — making him one of the very few mainstream commercial artists in India to hold a PhD in music.
His debut album Sai introduced the world to his signature Sufi-Punjabi sound — a style that sits at the beautiful intersection of classical Punjabi ragas, the philosophical depth of Sufi poetry, and the emotional directness of folk tradition. Songs like Ikk Tara, Titliaan, Soohe Veh Kapde and Kali Jotta have become timeless anthems — beloved by Punjabi music lovers across generations and continents.
In 2017, Dr. Sartaaj made his acting debut in The Black Prince — an internationally acclaimed Punjabi historical epic in which he portrayed Maharaja Duleep Singh, the last Sikh Maharaja of the Punjab. The film earned global praise and reinforced Sartaaj Ji's standing not just as a musician, but as a cultural ambassador for Punjabi heritage and history.
Today, Satinder Sartaaj performs to sold-out audiences across India and internationally — with concerts in Canada, the United Kingdom, the United States and Australia that regularly draw thousands of NRI Punjabi fans. His name — Sartaaj, meaning Crown — was gifted to him by fellow scholars at Panjab University, and remains the most fitting description of his place in Punjabi music and culture.
